Acupuncture
Acupuncture is used to treat pain by stimulation of certain acupoints around the body. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, energy known as Ki or Qi flows through meridians or distinct pathways around the body. Injury or dysfunction leads to a blockage of this flow or a deficiency of energy through the meridian. Through insertion of needles into the acupoints along the meridian, Acupuncture helps to harmonise the flow and thus treat pain.
Japanese acupuncture is a style of acupuncture that was refined in Japan. It has a strong emphasis on palpation along the meridians and diagnosis by touch. It is also distinctive by the use of very thin needles making for painless insertion. Shallower insertion also provides a milder stimulation than that of the thicker Chinese needles. Generally the Japanese approach to acupuncture is gentle and very effective at the same time.
